FAQ’s

  • You will need to buy a marriage licence at some time in the three months before your wedding date. Only one member of the couple is required to apply for a marriage licence, but he or she must apply in person, and show primary identification for both parties.

    Examples of primary identification include:

    • Birth certificate

    • IMM/immigration form

    • Permanent resident card

    • Citizenship card

The marriage licence issuer may accept a passport or driver’s licence in some circumstances.

A marriage licence costs $100, and is nonrefundable. However, if you lose your licence, you can return to the place where you bought it, and ask for a replacement.

  • At any wedding in British Columbia, the couple, two witnesses and the officiant marrying them must sign the Marriage Licence and Registration of Marriage after the ceremony has been performed.

Within 48 hours of the wedding, the officiant submits the registration to the Vital Statistics Agency where the registration information becomes a permanent legal record. Vital Statistics cannot issue a marriage certificate until the marriage is registered.

  • Every couple marrying in British Columbia receives a marriage certificate by mail once Vital Statistics has registered their marriage. On average, couples receive their marriage certificate three weeks after the wedding takes place.

  • We do have a Rehearsal Add-on option available, inquire within for rates. However, from our experience hiring a Same Day Coordinator is one of the best decisions you can make for your wedding day. Once you’ve completed your ceremony planning meeting your officiant will email you a ceremony outline to ensure you have all you need to run a rehearsal without our team there.

  • In case of an emergency, we have a large experienced team of “back-up” officiants to ensure you have an officiant on site to complete your wedding ceremony.

  • For weddings booked on major holidays, there will be an additional fee of $75.

  • A guaranteed way to hate your wedding photos is having a poorly dressed officiant in the background of your photos. In your ceremony planning meeting our officiant will confirm your ceremony dress code and color scheme so they have an idea of how to dress. If you’re not sure or haven’t decided officiants traditionally will wear a dark suit with natural accessories.
